On November 24th Si:said gallery (Daržų str. 18, Klaipeda, Lithuania) opened an exhibition of Vytautas Kumža “Trust it, use it, prove it”. This exhibition is a part of C- side project, presenting young artists from Klaipeda, Lithuania, which are working and studying abroad.
Exhibition “Trust it, use it, prove it” analyzes the differences between objects and it’s representation in photography. Vytautas Kumža is dealing with promotion catalogs founded in mailboxes, which create an illusion of a perfect life. He crafts objects from photographs, by turning them from 2D to 3D, and searches for a way to connect them. Using founded footage and turning it into an object V. Kumža creates an item, which represents a function, but most of the times, it loses the ability of actual functioning. By considering the materials and visuals, he looks for a perfect setting. Objects become kind of props from a movie which was never made. They look real but they have no function.
Vytautas Kumža (b. 1992 Klaipeda, Lithuania) graduated from Vilnius College of Design. Studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague. Currently studying at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In 2016 was selected and nominated for the European Photography Award. Over the past year V. Kumža works were exhibited at Kunstverein Siegen (Germany), Fondazione Fotografia in Modena (Italy), Studio 47 (Netherlands), Punt WG (Netherlands) and “Unseen” photography festival. Currently he lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The exhibition will be open until 31 December. Gallery’s opening hours III-V 16-18 h.
