Virginijus Viningas’ solo exhibition

On July 7 (Friday) at 6 p.m., a solo exhibition of the painter Virginijus Viningas opens at the gallery “si:said” (Daržų 18, Klaipėda).

In his latest exhibition, Virginijus Viningas continues the theme of the human body. The physical human body is the axis of his paintings, drawings, and etudes. The artist does not seek to accurately depict the human exterior. According to art critic Jurgita Ludavičienė, the artist is interested in “<…> the body as a physical expression of the human spirit”. Having traded his career as a boxer for that of a creator,  Viningas strikes expressively with paint. Bodies of different genders stand as an instrumental vision that emerges from the process of work and the relationship with nature, but not as a narcissistic investment in one’s body. The recording of ageing in the face, the widening of body shapes, beauty and eroticism create a new relationship with the body.

Virginijus Viningas (b. 1960) graduated in painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1990. Since 1993, he has participated in exhibitions. Since 2006, he has been member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. Currently, Viningas lives and works in Klaipėda.

The exhibition will run until 4 August.
