The exhibition “Conditions” by Philippe Gerlach

<

10th of September at 6 p.m. Philippe Gerlach will present his solo exhibition “Conditions” at “si:said” gallery (Daržų str. 18, Klaipeda, Lithuania). And on 15th of September will give an artist talk during 44th International Photography Symposium “NIDA. Meeting Photography”

Philippe Gerlach is a diaristic photographer, sourcing imagery from relationships, daily life, and subculture, which he combines into a highly personal, emotional universe that is constantly being reorganized into site-specific installations. Incorporating digital and analog photographic techniques, his wall installations are less focused on the single image, but on building a mesh that connects recent memories to older ones. Frequently these networks are enforced through nods to subculture and music. The preferred final form of Gerlach’s works is not necessarily the exhibition but includes various forms of collaboration, self-publishing, and sharing. “Conditions” sees works from a ten-year span transform the space of the Si:said Gallery into a monochrome, associative cloud.

Philippe Gerlach (b. 1982) graduated from the Art University in Linz, Austria in 2008 and moved to London for one year to assist. After a 14-month stint in Paris in 2010, he now lives and works in Berlin. His works have been shown internationally in institutions and festivals including Fotohof Salzburg, Spinnerei Leipzig, Claire de Rouen London, Rencontres Arles, and NY Photofestival, and are part of collections like the Österreichische Fotosammlung and La Collection FNAC, Paris. He also has been published via various publications in print and online including VICE Magazine, Modern Matter, Zoo Magazine, and Odiseo. In 2019-2020, Gerlach taught as a guest professor at ASP Katowice.
