On Thursday, December 22, at 6 p.m. at the gallery “si:said” (Daržų 18, Klaipėda), the project “C-side” continues, presenting young artists from Klaipėda who are working and studying abroad.
The project “C-side” is partly financed by Klaipėda City Municipality. It presents the work of two young artists from Klaipėda, Jurgis Viningas and Vytautas Kumža, who are both studying and working abroad. Vytautas Kumža (b. 1992, Klaipėda) opened the exhibition “Trust it, Use it, Prove it” on November, where he reconsiders the differences between objects and their representation in photography. Jurgis Viningas has conducted a small philosophical research. He has translated several philosophical texts into Lithuanian, thus introducing the reader to important contemporary ideas. Jurgis’ aim is to create an intellectual dialogue with the culturally interested residents of Klaipėda. Many important discussions often take place within the confines of the academy, and Viningas is convinced that it is more important than ever to revive a cultural dialogue with the city’s community as we watch the financial sector and gentrification colonise public space. The translations and the catalogue of the project will therefore be presented on December 22.
Jurgis Viningas (b. 1990, Klaipėda) studied at Klaipėda Eduardas Balsys Gymnasium of Arts, and graduated with a BA in Philosophy from Hyehthrop College, University of London. He is currently pursuing his MA in Philosophy at the University of Warwick. He has published poems, essays, and book reviews in various Lithuanian cultural periodicals. He lives and works in the UK.
